Recently, a friend who also writes, and who has also had a year of seeing life through broadening lenses, reflected on the past twelve months of learning and discovery in pictures. As many words often do, it spurred my own thoughts, caused me to look through delightful photo memories, moved me share.
A year ago Monday, September 8, I left for Senegal. The ensuing 365 days have been full, in so many forms. And yet as I reflected, considering the hundreds (maybe thousands) of photos, each sending my heart soaring in a different direction, I found I was not swayed to spill word upon word, sentence upon sentence, paragraph upon paragraph onto the page. Rather, the year came back to me in simple words representing themes, phases of growth, highlights, lessons, treasures I carry on my soul.
September 8 to September 8.
Senegal.

England.

Spring.

Kenya.

Return.

Thanks for all your beautiful words over the last year. I have kept them all and shared them with others. You are truly a beautiful person with much creativity and depth of character. I’m so proud to call you my granddaughter!! Love, Grandma Pershing
